Recently I’ve had a flurry of requests from businesses with a primary goal of facilitating adoption who are hoping to add their link to our site. I am posting this to explain what our policy is about linking to adoption businesses. WE DO NOT LINK TO ADOPTION FACILITATORS, AGENCIES OR ATTORNEYS. (We also don’t take paid advertising.)
This is an ad-free-zone in large part because it’s meant to be a safe place for all of our community members. I know that many of the first parents who come here would feel far less safe if they had to wade through a bunch of ads/links from businesses looking to facilitate adoptions.
Adoption professionals are welcome to be members of the community and to share their expertise by posting answers to the Community Wisdom questions, which are the heart & soul of the site. Very few choose to do that but frankly, if you want to benefit from our community, you need to participate. (Obviously I reserve the right to moderate comments that are clearly meant to boost click throughs and aren’t really about helping.)
I wish more adoption professionals WOULD participate because it’d be nice to get definitive answers about some of the legalities or how things work or how to get better post-adoption support. Also this site has a lot of information for professionals who want to better serve the people who reach out to them so think of hanging out here as research for improving your services to the people in your care.
Now there is an exception to my rule about not linking to facilitators, agencies and attorneys. If you’re sponsoring a for-real conference (not just a workshop to drum up business) then let me know. I won’t post about the hundreds of Adoption 101 webinars or Getting Started in Adoption workshops because those are a dime a dozen. But if you’re doing real, substantive work I want to hear about it, ESPECIALLY if that work isn’t just geared to adoptive parents.
But a links list with your adoption business at the top? Nope. Not ever. It’s just not how things work around here.

Thank you – this website has been a support. As a first grandmother adoption has been a painful experience. Seeing adds soliciting birth mothers really can be upsetting.
