Any ideas on what to do for our son’s birthmother for Christmas? Maybe things you’ve done in the past that have been appreciated? Thanks so much!

I think the best gift we did
I think the best gift we did so far is create a photo book (from one of the online services where you can create an actual printed book). I followed my daughter around the backyard one day and took her picture so that all the shots are from the same couple of hours. This made it look more like a “day in the life” kinda thing. Then I had my son interview her. (My son was 9 and Madison was 2.5 when we did this.) So it’s truly a slice of Madison at just that age! I made two copies and I love to look at it, too. I want to do it again soon just to show how she’s grown.
Even if your son is too young to interview, you could still showcase all the things he’s doing these days and all the things he likes. And it was easy-peasy for me — I’m not craft at all so scrapbooking or anything like that was totally OUT for me.
For the first Christmas, I
For the first Christmas, I asked S what she wanted, and she wanted a purple shirt and an iron. So, that’s what I got her. I also, of course, sent massive amounts of photos in little brag books.
Last year, I made a Book of Firsts – a digital scrapbook that covered all of Jack’s “firsts” from first picture to first steps. It was a lot of fun. I like digital scrapbooking, and am not all that fond of the way the photo services (Snapfish, etc.) do books. I prefer to have the creativity to do whatever I want.
This year, she’s getting another scrapbook (titled Little Things I Love About You), as well as a gift card.
I started her a collection
I started her a collection of ornaments, with a character that has meaning within our relationship, and this year also had my mom make her a stocking (all of our stockings are special and made by my mom so she gets one this year
)
In general our families only buy presents for the kids, and sometimes small, meaningful things or homemade items for adults. Since she is a member of our family now she was happy to join in our way of doing things.
I’m struggling with this
I’m struggling with this too. We recently had professional portraits done of our daughter and I’m sending her first mom (and grandma) a couple of 5x7s as a gift but I also wanted to get her something that’s not necessarily about the child. Last year we gave her a basket of yummy, natural soaps/scrubs/lotions, fancy chocolates, slippers, etc. This year I’m thinking spa gift certificate or nice journal or something like that. Still trying to figure it out…
